The particles' journey

CERN’s giant machines accelerate miniscule particles of matter to extremely high speeds, then bring them into collision inside experiments to study how the universe works at the smallest scales.  At CERN Science Gateway discover an accelerator in action and find out how it can also be used in medicine.

THE LHC IS AN INCREDIBLE TOOL FOR RESEARCH.

“The LHC is an incredible tool for research – a 27-km ring full of sophisticated equipment, including over 1200 superconducting dipole magnets. These huge magnets guide the particles, minuscule pieces of matter, along their trajectory to the collision points. At CERN Science Gateway, you will get to see and handle some of the components of the LHC and understand how they work.”
