As of summer 2021, the beautiful Esplanade des Particules hosts an open-air exhibition on Science Gateway, CERN’s new education and outreach centre designed to share with everyone how CERN’s research is a part of our lives.

The exhibition is available in English and French on the Esplanade, and in 18 more languages on this website.

JOIN US TO GET HANDS-ON WITH SCIENCE

> Science Gateway will open its doors to the public in 2023 and will welcome up to 300 000 visitors each year.

EXPLORE OUR UNIVERSE AT CERN SCIENCE GATEWAY

> With more than 3000 square metres of solar panels and 400 trees, Science Gateway will be carbon-neutral.

DISCOVER SCIENCE AS IT HAPPENS

> Science Gateway will run events for all ages.

DISCOVER YOUR INNER SCIENTIST

> The educational activities are centred on enquiry-based learning with the help of CERN scientists.

GO BEHIND THE SCENES AT CERN

> The CERN Science Gateway will house three new exhibitions. Find out how CERN explores the infinitely small in “Discover CERN.” Travel back in time to the Big Bang in “Our Universe.” Explore the mysteries of particles in “Quantum World.”

FOLLOW THE PARTICLES IN THE ACCELERATORS

> Linac 4 is the latest addition to CERN’s accelerator complex and is a key element of the future High-Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider.

RETRACE THE JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY

> ALICE is an experiment designed to study a state of matter known as the quark-gluon plasma.

DISCOVER THE MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE

> Our galaxy, the Milky Way, contains stars, planets, nebulae and, according to theories, also Dark Matter.

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME

> Our universe began with the Big Bang some 13.8 billion years ago, expanding from an extremely hot dense state to the soup of particles seen in this image.

DISCOVER HOW FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH CHANGES OUR LIVES

> The technologies and scientific advances behind particle physics have contributed to the field of medical and biomedical technologies.
